Save the Bees!

Save the Bees - Button Set

Size: 1″
Materials: Linen, Cotton, Silk
Stitches: Bullion, Running, Couching
Status: Sold

A set of 3 hand embroidered buttons for bee lovers! Bees are one of my animal guides, and so my first button creations are dedicated to them.

  • The first button shows five very busy bees, embroidered with tiny bullion stitches wrapped with black floss and organza wings.
  • The second button is the flight of the bee through the air, embroidered with runnning stitches.
  • The third button is the bees home, a skep, embroidered with couched stitches.

All of the buttons are on linen and can easily be sewn onto anything you like. Great for decorative use or as working buttons. The buttons are 1″ in diameter — a little bigger than a quarter.

I just realized that they were still damp from a final cleaning when I took the pictures. I’ll have to take new ones with out the damp spots!

Etsy Love: Sma Bla and MoonLitCreations

Sma BlaMoonLitCreations

Sma Bla is an artist from Sweden! I discovered her through a treasury, and I think it was the first necklace on the left that was included.  I have thing these days for colored pearls and copper, so a copper colored fresh water pearl necklace was far too much for me.  The only reason I haven’t purchased it yet — is that I’ve been doing a bit too much shopping lately!

MoonLitCreations is the work of a Wiccan mom, who, based on her profile lives in Signal Mountain, TN.  I can’t remember whether I found her work through a treasury.  I loved the moon pendant and the citrine pentacle is really lovely too, although I don’t really do pentacles.  I especially appreciate that she lists the stones and their metaphysical uses on her profile page.

So check out these artisans and enjoy purchasing hand crafted pieces directly from the artist!

Etsy Love is an ongoing series of articles. There are so many fabulous artists and artisans on Etsy that I thought I should occasionally point out the ones that have made my favorites list.

I started a thread on the Etsy forums because I already know of about 1/2 dozen former artisans who are now selling their work on Etsy and I’m wondering how many others are out there on Etsy? Ever made your living in props, costumes, or sets and now on Etsy?

Where did you work?

My highlights:

Shakespeare Theatre (DC)
GEVA Theatre (Rochester, NY)
Williamstown Theatre Festival (MA)

Where’s the Snake?

Where's the Snake

Size: 8.5″ X 8″
Materials: Wool Felt, Linen, Cotton , Organza Ribbon
Stitches: Running, Satin, Ribbon, Long/Short, Stem, French Knot
Status: Available on Etsy

I’ve been working on this piece for more than 6-months. It began as a 6×4 and then grew into a wall hanging. The name comes from the question everyone asks when they see the piece, “Where’s the snake?” The answer is simple — the snake is gone and Chava (Eve) stands alone. This is the moment just before she makes her decision to eat.

Chava Decides
This is my decision. This is my first decision.
Do I eat and allow my mind and body to grow,
Knowing it will bring death into the world…
Or live in ignorance?

As I wrote in an earlier post about this piece, “the snake is not present, because the focus is on her decision. In my midrash Chava makes a choice, she is not tricked by the snake. She listens to the snake and then does something she’s never done — she makes a decision on her own — thereby beginning history (herstory, if you like).”
